bYo - The Development of a Yoga Mat - Part 1

Yoga mats are a dime a dozen, so why another one? It’s quite simple: not a single yoga mat we looked at could convince us 100% in terms of true sustainability and design. In part 1, we explain the background to our new yoga mat.

The project of creating a new yoga mat was already on our agenda when we founded treeletic. However, the initial question was how we could make a decisive change to a product for which countless versions are already available on the market. After all, it is part of our brand core to offer our community something better than what is usually available on the market.

And so the central question was which materials are actually used for yoga mats. To our surprise, we discovered that all mats are more or less made with synthetic materials. Be it latex, recycled PU, or even supposedly eco-friendly TPE.

Wait a minute, yoga and synthetic materials—how does that go together? It doesn't, right? Exactly, we think so too.

But aren't there mats that are made entirely or partially from natural rubber!? Admittedly, that would have been an alternative for us too. Why that didn't satisfy us nonetheless, you will find out here on our blog shortly in part 2.
